Project: Albrect Durer Inspired Drawing

After reading information about this artist and taking a look at his various wood carvings. You will choose to work in a theme he often used (Religious, Mythology, foreign animals, perspective). Having chosen your theme you will add three elements that Durer often used in his drawings.

1. Landscape- Mountains, Castle, trees

2. Characters- people (godlike), angels, cherubs, witches, soldiers

3. Creatures- Lions, dragons, dogs, unicorns, etc

You will draw ideas and a rough draft in your sketchbook.

Good Copy: Must fill the page. Use hatching or cross-hatching to shade your drawing. Final drawing is done in pen to mimic Durer's ink prints.

Project: Renaissance Portrait Drawings

After practicing facial features, proportions of the face, shading and the use of conte you will be drawing a portrait of your friend. Keeping with the style of renaissance drawings you will use either sienna or black conte as well as white conte for highlights.

The face must be a side view either looking up or down. Must be shaded realistically. This drawing will be done on large manilla paper. The portrait will take up 75% of the paper. Dress your drawing in renaissance traditional clothing.
