This principle has to do with creating the visual sensation of Balance or Imbalance. This could be created either by implying the sensation of balance or imbalance in two dimensional work (painting, drawing, collage) or by achieving actual balance or imbalance in three dimensional work (sculpture, architecture, instelations)
- Balance = Symmetry
- Symmetry is when both sides of a composition are identical.
- Imbalance = Asymmetry
- When both sides of the composition are different and one side of the composition takes more attention and seems 'heavier' - larger, more detailed, more colorful, etc.
- Radial Symmetry
- When the artworks/design parts are arranged symmetrically around a central point in a circular manner
